The Tree I Cut

from Haiku Music - Volume 2 by George L Smyth

/

about

Looking up –
how still
the tree I cut

This is a haiku by Ippekiro Nakatsuka, one of the first to introduce the colloquial style into haiku poetry. For Nakatsuka, what mattered the most was the ability to reduce a poem into a single picture or thought, with as little words as possible.

The Tree I Cut is written for Horn, Bass Trumpet, Trombone, Bass Trombone, Gong, Violin, Viola, Cello and String Bass.
